Lost Hearing Aids No Problem for Expert Hearing Solutions

Senior retirement homes are busy places with numerous residents, all with different needs. Most residents do wear hearing aids so the probability of them getting switched with those of a roommate or worse, lost in transport or during a room cleaning are relatively common problems.

This is what happened to one of our clients at the Expert Hearing Solutions clinic in Surrey, BC.

Let us introduce you to Mr. Terpening, a 104.5 year old who lives in a lovely retirement residence where he receives complete care on a daily basis. His wife, in her early 80s, visits daily and ensures that her husband is well looked after. So far, all has gone well with his hearing aid care.

Unfortunately, one day his hearing aids went missing at the senior home. A replacement through the funding third party was not possible at this time. Mr. Terpening has been a long time client of Expert Hearing so we knew we had to do something to help. We coordinated with Oticon to help our client hear again.

When Zahra Merali, Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner at Expert Hearing first visited Mr. Terpening to take ear impressions for new earmolds after learning about his lost hearing aids. He seemed agitated by meeting someone with whom he could not communicate. Zahra could see his frustration of not being able to hear or express his feelings.

When the earmolds arrived a week later, Zahra wanted to personally fit the molds and aids to ensure that the client was comfortable, showing him a familiar face and enabling him to hear successfully.

Not only was Mr. Terpening able to communicate with Zahra and his wife, it turns out he is a jolly fellow with a great sense of humour. The big smile on his face was something Zahra will remember forever. She was extremely happy that she was able to help get the replacement hearing aids for this wonderful client and Mr. and Mrs. Terpening were immensely grateful as well.

We are happy to say that they are excited about the new hearing aids and are planning for Mr. Terpening’s 105th birthday!
